Primate Lodge is a stylish and secluded eco-lodge in the heart of Uganda’s Kibale Forest National Park. It is a very special place to get up close and personal with chimpanzees with the expert trackers, and right by the trailhead.
Primate Lodge Kibale is an eco-friendly wildlife lodge that makes a perfect base for tracking Uganda’s wonderful primates and especially the wild chimpanzees that inhabit this African rainforest. Located in the middle of Kibale Forest National Park, where the silence is only interrupted by the melodious calls of forest birds, Primate Lodge consists of nine luxury en suite cottages and seven forest cottages. The luxury cottages are glass fronted with views out into the forest beyond your private terrace while the seven forest cottages have thatched roofs and wooden decks and a more traditional feel. There is also an adventurous tree house located ten minutes from the main lodge.
The main lodge constructed with local materials consists of a spacious dining room where good food is served, and an adjacent bar, along with an open lounge furnished with comfortable large chairs, sofas and soft cushions, making it the ideal place to unwind and listen to the chattering of the red-tailed monkeys in the dense branches. Being situated in the protected area of Kibale National Park, Primate Lodge Kibale is highly committed to the conservation of nature and culture. Solar electricity is harvested in order to minimize the impact on the environment, and the lodge contributes directly to the local community through employment, locally sourced supplies and encouragement of cultural traditions such as the handmade crafts and cultural performances.
Most guests come to Primate Lodge for the chimpanzees and you can join the rangers for an exciting encounter with the chimpanzees, tracking them through the forest while keeping a keen eye open for other primate species such as colobus, l'Hoest's monkey and mangabey. You can also join a chimp habituation experience, a very special activity as you spend an entire day with these amazing creatures, watch them wake up, search for food, rest, play and go to sleep again. Other activities include searching for the great blue turaco in Bigodi Swamp, exploring the beauty of the surrounding crater lakes or taking a hike in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.
