The day begins with a scenic 45-minute boat trip to the delightful fishing village of Sedovia, set against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains. Once a Russian fur trading post, today visitors can enjoy browsing the colourful shops, meeting Alaskan Native villagers, viewing the unique life-size woodcarvings, and visiting the historic Russian orthodox church. At one time Seldovia was home to over 2,000 residents but today fewer than 300 Dena’ina Indian and Suspiaq/Alitiiq Eskimo remain.
There is an optional hike along the Otter-Bahn Trail through ancient spruce forest, lined with berry bushes, which leads to wonderful views of Kachemak bay. Other additional options include berry picking, ice cream and lunch at a restaurant of your choice.
