Island Bush Camp offers an authentic, rustic bush camp stay in one of the most remote areas of the South Luangwa National Park; perfect for off-the-beaten-track walking safaris. Primarily a walking camp, you can be assured of a simple stay which allows you to connect with the wilderness that surrounds the camp. The camp is perched on the banks of the Luangwa River with wonderful views and plenty of game coming to the water to drink, particularly during the dry season.
Activities at Island Bush Camp are focused on walking safaris which are led by an expert guide and accompanied by an armed scout. Walking safaris will be tailored to your interests and fitness level, and are more of a meander through the bush rather than an intense hike. There is a vehicle in camp which is great for taking you to areas further afield for walking as well as for night game drives which will allow you to see elusive nocturnal species. Encounters can vary from a chance meeting with elephants to sitting and watching a cloud of carmine bee eaters coming and going from their seasonal colonies on the high sand banks of the Luangwa River. The remote location of the camp, away from settlements means that there are very low levels of light pollution, making for some exciting star gazing opportunities.
Island Bush Camp is a small and intimate camp with just five chalets, accommodating a maximum of 10 guests. The chalets are purposefully simple with no power and are open-fronted to allow for a true wilderness experience with magnificent views of the river, and open air bathrooms which have running water, flushing loos and bucket showers. Bush camps are a sociable affair with guests gathering around the fire to share stories from their day's walking and an outdoor lounge area providing a bush TV experience where you can watch the comings and goings of the bush.
Island Bush Camp is a seasonal camp open from 25th May - 1st November.
