Singita Boulders Lodge sits on the banks of the Sand River, towering over the landscape, a monolith of curving thatch and piled stone that fuses seamlessly with the rocks that harness it to the earth. The lodge boasts a cool environment using a palette of charcoal, bone, rust, copper and ochre to decorate and reflect the four elements of earth, fire, air and water. There is a sense that everything has been derived from the earth and the smooth white linen and cascading water soothe the senses. Characterised by handcrafted design with the integrity of authentic African provenance, the lodge merges seamlessly with the shifting life, shapes and moods of the environment, providing a soothing sanctuary for world-weary travellers craving a connection with nature. The lodge is built around a mighty rock which tells a tale – when Singita’s creators found the area, it was perfect save for the enormous boulder where they planned to build the wine cellar. It was hundreds of tonnes, and far too big to shift, so they came up with a solution – simply build around the rock! Hence the name stuck, and guests can see the famous boulder for themselves. Guest areas are expansive and close to the river, allowing full engagement with the magnificent setting beneath the ebony and weeping boer bean trees.
Singita Boulders Lodge has enormous tree-top decks, giving unparalleled views over the surrounding countryside, and boasts impeccable yet unobtrusive service at all times. Activities focus on exploring the area with your expert guide, either on foot or by vehicle, soaking up all the highlights that Africa provides, and keeping eyes and ears open for the Big Five which frequent this area.
The suites at Singita Boulders are one-of-a-kind – stylish, spacious and with vast sundecks overlooking the wilderness, each suite has a magnificent stone bathroom and a huge, luxurious bedroom. Every suite is air-conditioned and has unobstructed views of the plains in front of camp – guests can often see lion or cheetah hunting from their bedroom window!
In the evenings after a busy safari day, choose to treat yourself in Singita’s exclusive spa, or take a dip in the heated plunge pool or for those feeling more active there is a gym. Then wind down with a delicious glass of wine from Singita’s very own wine cellar before settling down to a delicious pan-African meal served under the stars.
