Caroline Hunt
Growing up in Zimbabwe, I would often venture into the bush to observe birds and wildlife and simply be immersed in nature. As much as I have traveled all over the world and with so many places still left to explore, Africa will always be home and hold a very special place in my heart.
Exploring places, meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures, and realizing how much beauty is in the world is really what makes us tick. It expands our minds and hopefully our hearts - to respect one another and respect nature. I have lived in Zimbabwe, Italy, London and now New York and have been fortunate to travel the world and stay in some gorgeous places during my 20-year career in the luxury hotel industry. Cambodia was one of the highlights and I would love to return and include Vietnam and Laos as well as India. However, the Galapagos, Namibia, Zambia and Antarctica are high on that list too!

My top tips
-
Don't overpack! Most places in Africa include laundry services and your clothes are washed, dried in the sun, ironed and put back into your room on the same day. Heaven!
-
Research a little where you are going and what you would really like to see and do while you are there. But leave room for surprises along the way and allow yourself to experience things outside of your comfort zone.

Taste the local foods. Spicy does not always mean hot. Delve into the culture and lifestyle as much as you can but respect the boundaries. We have more in common than you think and often it is the sense of humor that breaks through any barrier.
