Matt Shock
Safari encapsulates everything that I love and yearn for in travel – wildlife, remote landscapes, wonderful people and special memories – and I am so lucky to have been able to form a career around these passions.
Finding a career in travel was one of the best things to have ever happened to me, and I’m so thrilled that I have been recognized as one of Conde Nast’s Top Travel Specialists in 2021 and 2022. While I have always had a passion for travel and exploring new places, it was after a gap year visit to Africa that I knew this was the place for me. I instantly fell in love with Africa’s incredible wildlife and welcoming people, and have since been lucky enough to live and work as a safari guide in Namibia and travel extensively around the continent. All of my journeys have been completely wildlife focused – I have a huge passion for nature conservation, eco-tourism, and particularly wildlife photography and bird watching. I take such pleasure in discussing wildlife, the nuances of safari, and Africa’s remote places with my guests, and absolutely love sending them to the continent’s incredible range of destinations.

Egypt has been our family bucket list and finally we have made it! What a dream come true. Matt was a massive part of this. Thank you so much. I really wanted to make sure our guide in Cairo was brilliant with children. My eldest daughter is incredibly anxious. When we arrived in Cairo she said she didn’t think this was a good idea. On leaving Cairo she said that was the best vacation of her life. Thank you SO much.

My hot picks
-
Angama Mara, Maasai Mara, Kenya
No lodge is flawless, but Angama is the closest thing to it! -
Bomani Tented Lodge, Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe
The people make this camp – always an absolute hoot!
My top tips
-
Always try and head out on a bush walk while you’re on safari – it paints the experience in a whole different light.
-
Head to Kenya or Tanzania in shoulder season – beautiful weather, great wildlife, and far less people!
-
Take a good head torch on safari to spot some nocturnal animals outside your room.
