Just a 5-hour private flight from the stunning coastal city of Cape Town, touch down on the ancient ice of Antarctica for an unforgettable adventure on the white continent. Approaching the futuristic ‘sky pods’ of Echo Camp, this is as close as it comes to visiting another planet without leaving earth. Fusing space and exploration, sleep in one of six state-of-the-art heated pods inspired by the vast lunar-like landscapes of Antarctica.
Brand new in 2022, Echo Camp blends retro style with futuristic details comparable to the International Space Station – the camp’s closest neighbor, orbiting over 400km overhead. Each domed pod is crafted from composite fibreglass, complete with ultra-modern materials and floor-to-ceiling windows, creating a deep sense of connection to the wild landscape outside. The 20ft bedroom includes a cozy lounge area and an adjoining private washroom and toilet. As with all White Desert’s camps, Echo is designed to be dismantled, leaving no trace on the Antarctic landscape.
Daily adventures across vast ice sheets promise to expand your horizons, from skiing and mountaineering to thrilling ice climbing and biking. For a truly unforgettable day trip, visit the nearby 28,000-strong Emperor Penguin colony – one of nature’s rarest sights. If you’re lucky enough to visit early in the season, witness the extraordinary sight of chicks just as they are stepping off their parents’ feet. You may also have the chance to tick a visit to the South Pole off your bucket list.
