Douglas Mawson Arctic

Named after the British-born geologist and Antarctic explorer, the Douglas Mawson is the latest ship in the Aurora fleet, set to sail her maiden Antarctic voyage in 2025. Built for small ship polar expedition cruising, this state-of-the-art ship meets the latest Polar Class 6 requirements for ice-breaking vessels, and features Aurora’s revolutionary Ulstein X-Bow hull, as well as enhanced stability features. The benefits include reduced fuel consumption and enhanced sustainability, along with safe, smooth and quiet sailing through even the roughest waters.
The ship carries a maximum 154 passengers and 100 crew, with excellent service levels and a friendly relaxed vibe. There’s a wide choice of ensuite cabins, including Single Staterooms with porthole windows, 58 connecting Balcony Staterooms and spacious Suites with separate living areas. Around 80% include a balcony and guests can expect bright fresh décor with stylish Scandinavian design influences.
There are two main restaurants serving accomplished cuisine accompanied by complimentary house wine, beer and soft drinks, along with a final night Captain’s Farewell Drinks including cocktails and a three-course meal. Complimentary beverages and snacks are available 24-hours a day and there are inviting bars and lounges in which to sit back and socialize with fellow guests. For onboard relaxation, there’s an outdoor heated pool, two hot tubs, sauna and gym. The Douglas Mawson also features a small medical clinic and has return-to-port equipment in the event of engine failure.
To get the most from the voyage, there is an extensive library, Citizen’s Science Center and a Lecture Theater for talks and presentations from the Expedition Team and visiting local experts. Outside viewing areas maximize the wildlife spotting opportunities and guests enjoy regular guided Zodiac excursions with several access points for easy embarkation. The Mud Room is home to the outdoor gear and boots and is equipped with a rapid drying area for wet clothes. There is also a marine platform for adventure activities which include sea kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, ice camping, and stand-up paddleboarding.
