Thala Beach Nature Reserve
  • Thala Beach Lodge has its own observatory for star gazing - romantic and educational

  • Thala’s bungalow accommodation blends with the surrounds beautifully, providing a luxurious sense of privacy

  • Borrow the sea-kayaks for some coastal exploring

  • Ospreys Restaurant offers fine food and views of 110 kilometers of beautiful coastline

The views from Thala Beach Nature Reserve of this World Heritage coastline are second to none. Located where the Daintree Rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef over 145 acres and designed with the aesthetics of its beautiful natural surroundings in mind, Thala’s deluxe timber frame bungalows blend into the vegetation and provide a luxurious sense of privacy. There is a spectacular 2km sandy beach and secluded coves as well as the diverse nature of the rainforest to explore and, of course, the largest coral reef in the world is yours to discover. A lovely option for those wanting a barefoot, rustic experience.

The Bungalows here have been designed to blend with nature and are built from sustainable materials. Chose from the Jungle Walk Bungalows which are far from the resort's hub and are peaceful and secluded within the forest, Eucalypt Bungalows which feel like luxurious bird hides - beautiful butterflies and tropical birds are often easily seen from the balcony which is in the rainforest canopy, or the Coral Sea Bungalow with ocean views. If you want the ultimate in privacy and romance choose the Sandpiper Suite with its spacious interior and large balcony overlooking Thala Beach Nature Reserve's two deserted beaches.

Ospreys Restaurant is a memorable experience, not only for the delicious and innovative fresh cuisine but also for the setting - high up in the treetops you dine with the birds and have uninterrupted views for over 100km. The Masked Plover cocktail bar is a relaxed, fun place for a cocktail and a chat about the day's explorations and for a more casual meal with your toes in the sand try Herbie's Beach Shack, fresh seafood, stunning sunsets and cold beer aplenty.

Thala Beach Nature Reserve has two free form swimming pools with grottoes, waterfalls and Jacuzzi's built in, as well as a relaxing health spa. However, if you can tear yourself away from the comforts of the resort, the surrounding area has a plethora of adventures and activities waiting to be discovered from bird watching, trekking through the jungle and guided nature walks inland, to kayaking, fishing, diving, island hopping and enjoying the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef out at sea.
