The Margaret River has a lovely climate all year round and enjoys a Mediterranean style climate with warm summers and mild winters. The busy season is summer (November-April); expect to pay premium prices during December and January, and over Easter when the wine harvest is gathered. Spring (October-November) is particularly pretty, with carpets of flowers and lovely blossoms. Winter (June-September) is best for whale-watching.

Itinerary

Day 1-4

Perth, Western Australia, Australia

Kickstart this epic adventure though Western Australia in the standout city of Perth. Spend three days here to acclimatise and recoup after your journey and experience the delights that Perth has to offer.  No better place to do this than at COMO The Treasury, a chic and contemporary boutique hotel set in the heart of the historic city center with incredibly spacious rooms and fantastic dining options all housed within stunning heritage state buildings on the Cathedral Square.  Below the hotel are several restaurants and bars, perfectly located so you needn't venture far should you wish to head out in the evenings. Feast on seafood fresh from the ocean, washed down with wine from the Swan Valley and work it all off with a walk through the expansive Kings Park to the top of Mount Eliza to appreciate the fantastic views of the city.

Perth is an eminently liveable, and loveable city full of cosmopolitan delights. You will be treated to a sunny climate with easy access to beautiful beaches, rolling ocean and parklands, while shiny skyscrapers line the Swan River, and many cafes, bars and restaurants to sample.

Take the ferry to Rottnest Island for a full day privately guided tour of this exquisite island. Just 17km off the coast of Perth yet a world away, Rottnest is a favorite island haunt for both locals and visitors alike yet still retains an air of exclusivity. With no cars allowed, transportation around the island is either by bike, Segway or on foot. Disembark the ferry and head to the local bike shop where you will be kitted out with a bike and helmet before taking to the boardwalks and trails exploring Rottnest on your two wheels. Throughout the day your guide will tell you all about the history of the island and showing you some of the most picturesque bays and beaches. You'll enjoy lunch overlooking the water’s edge looking back towards Perth before beginning the legendary ‘Quokka Walk’ where you will hopefully encounter some of the island’s endemic marsupials - the quokka. The rest of your afternoon can be at your leisure exploring the island or alternatively parking your bikes up and finding a quiet spot on one of the beautiful bays - the perfect place to while away an hour or so before re-boarding your boat back to Perth.

Take time out from exploring Perth to really unwind and relax in the pampering Como spa. For fine dining, head to the rooftop to try Wildflower, which boasts views across the Swan River and a menu filled with inspiring dishes.  After your three days in Perth doing as much or as little as you desire its time for your next slice of adventure at the stunning Ningaloo Reef.

Day 4-7

Exmouth, Western Australia, Australia

From buzzing Perth you’ll find yourself in the remote World Heritage Area of the Ningaloo Coast on the North West Cape. Here you’ll lose yourself in ‘Wild Bush Luxury’ at the extraordinary tented camp of Sal Salis, the epitome of laid-back luxury, hidden in the epic sand dunes just meters from the natural wonder of Ningaloo Reef. The Ningaloo Region is renowned for its 280 kilometers of fringing reef and it is the best place in the world to swim with whale sharks and manta rays. This luxury wilderness camp is the only way to see this beautiful part of the world and even though it is in such a remote spot, you still have more than enough creature comforts! Each tent is appointed with fine furnishings and linen and the dining room serves the best and freshest Australian produce, beautifully prepared by the resident chef and accompanied by fine wines.

The in-camp experience is designed to underpin the extraordinary nature-based activities that can be undertaken in the area, you will be blown away by the amazing activities on offer here. We recommend donning your snorkeling gear to explore the beautiful Ningaloo Reef, which is known as one of the best places to see and swim with manta rays and whale sharks (dependent on the time of year). Ningaloo is also a major breeding area for hawksbill, green and loggerhead turtles, which are seen daily at camp and can be seen digging their nests in the dunes in front of the tents. Guided kayaking trips are also on offer and a great way to explore the reef where you can travel to further spots offshore and snorkel amongst 500 species of fish. On land, we would recommend going on a guided walk through the Mandu Mandu Gorge where you will learn about the Aboriginal settlements that used to live here. Then, after dinner, make sure to look up to admire the stars and constellations; with practically no artificial light pollution, this is the perfect place for stargazers.

Accommodation: Sal Salis ( 3 nights )
Day 7-10

The Kimberley, Western Australia, Australia

After your scenic flight to Kununurra airport you will enjoy a private transfer to the next stage of this incredible journey arriving at the luxury El Questro Homestead. The Kimberley's most luxurious retreat located on the Chamberlain River and sits amidst a million acres of breath-taking and untouched scenery, from rugged ranges and broad tidal flats, to rainforest pockets, gorges, waterfalls and jagged red cliffs. The Homestead itself has a contemporary feel, mixing modern pieces with rustic Australian furnishings, with romantic dining areas on rock platforms above the river, tropical gardens and - for good measure?– a swimming pool and?tennis court. The food and wine are as much an attraction as the wild country that envelopes the property. Every meal is brimming with ingredients of superb pedigree and quality.

It is possibly the only place in the Australia to spot crocs from the shower. They come drifting down the river as slowly and inexorably as the tide, stealthily taking up their positions before the nightly feeding session. The Homestead is in a sublime location to spot the Kimberley Big 5: brolgas, jabirus, saltwater crocodiles, bullocks and wallaroos. El Questro guides will tailor your stay to suit your interests. Take a cruise down the Chamberlain Gorge to view fine examples of Aboriginal Wandjina art and spot saltwater crocodiles. On horseback keep an eye out for wildlife including bustards, Frill-necked Lizards, Brolgas and Jabirus. Swimming in the natural springs is a true privilege. From the resurrected Emma Gorge, a short path threads its way beneath luminous walls of ochre-colored stone to where a waterfall tumbles past the rapunzel-like tangles of fig roots into an amphitheater of rock, feeding a turquoise pool. Another gorgeous spot for swimming is El Questro Gorge, where the water flows beneath clouds of butterflies and gorge walls cloaked in ferns and mosses.

While here you must experience a sensational scenic flight over the extraordinary Bungle Bungle Range. You will soar above the striking orange and black striped karst sandstone domes, often likened to giant beehives, while taking you over canyons and gorges, past waterfalls, caves and galloping brumbies and finishing with a delicious picnic lunch.  It is a magical experience not to be missed.

Accommodation: El Questro Homestead ( 3 nights )
