Belizean Jungle
The jungles of Belize are rich with color, the tropical forest forming a haven for wildlife, including the elusive jaguar, a variety of monkeys and hundreds of rare and wonderful bird species. This region, also known as the Orange Walk District, is also home to the Mayan ruins of Lamanai, where visitors can climb several of the temples to soak in views over this blanket of pristine wilderness.
The Orange Walk District covers a large expanse of Belize's northern jungle territory, bordering both Guatemala and Mexico. Here, the landscapes are rich with tropical flora and fauna, and the sounds of the jungle echo in every direction. Look up into the tree canopy to spot howler monkeys, spider monkeys and fluttering hummingbirds, and lower down expect to see spoonbills, herons and, if you're lucky, a jaguar!
A journey along the New River brings you to the impressive Mayan ruins of Lamanai, which rise out of the dense rainforest and boast spectacular views across the New River Lagoon and the surrounding treetops.
