Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp is situated under dense strands of African ebony trees in an exclusive wildlife concession. With only ten elevated tented suites, Nxabega offers some of the best flood plain views in the Delta.
Light and spacious tents fanned around the main lodge each with large decks and day beds from which you can enjoy the wildlife wandering past.
The pool is very large and has fantastic shaded areas to relax during the heat of the day.
There is much on offer such as boating, walking and day and night game drives in a fantastic area of the Delta.
A great option for couples and families alike with excellent food and staff that really go above and beyond. Make the most of your fitness kit in your room to do some sunrise yoga on the deck.
Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp is unique in that it combines the Okavango water wilderness experience with the excitement of viewing the big game normally associated with ’land’ camps.
The lodge has been beautifully hand-crafted and was deliberately designed to ensure that its open-plan dining room, lounge, library and expansive decks all offer the best views over the endless floodplains of the delta. The nine contemporary tented suites, including one family suite, are tastefully decorated in natural colors in order to feel light and airy, and feature traditional touches such as linens hand-stitched with patterns reminiscent of traditional Botswanan basket designs. All suites have private decks with a swinging bench and en-suite facilities, and the tents open out towards the delta with front-facing beds, giving guests spectacular views over the floodplain. Families have the opportunity to benefit from added space and privacy by connecting two tented suites with a covered walkway.
There is a choice of daily activities including meandering along the floodplains of the delta by mokoro, exploring the deeper channels by motor boat, nature walks accompanied by an unarmed professional guide or tracking game by open 4 x 4 safari vehicle in the mopane forests and open grasslands. The added highlight of an evening game drive by spotlight ensures you a complete Botswana experience.
Nxabega is located in riverine forest which is home to prolific birdlife, including the elusive Pel’s fishing owl, and fruit bats are attracted to the abundant fig trees, feeding on the juicy fruit after dark. The camp is situated on the channels and lagoons of the southern, seasonal part of the Delta. This is one of the most important wetland sites remaining in Africa. In the wet season, the pans fill with water attracting flocks of flamingo and other migratory water birds.
When to visit
Exploring the Delta by mokoro is the ultimate way to see the game from a different angle. Also as the mokoro are silent we saw fantastic birds and the small animals such as a painted reed frog, which was the same size as my finger tip and beautifully marked.
