The Savute Channel gave the area its name - a bit of a natural phenomenon, the channel was dry for 26 years leaving drought and dust behind. Only in the past five years has it begun to flow again, bringing water and life to the area, and filling the treacherous bog of the Savute Marsh.
This is a game rich area, huge herds of elephant roam through northern Botswana, large numbers of lion are also found here, one pride said to number 28 individuals. Savute and the surrounding Linyanti wetlands are well known for its dramatic predator interactions; the lion here have become famous for targeting elephant in their hunts. Perhaps most famously, the intensity of competition in Savute is best captured by Derek and Beverly Joubert in their National Geographic film: Eternal Enemies, following the lives of lion and hyena.
Savute Under Canvas is an authentic mobile camp offering the chance to explore this remote and unspoiled wildlife area. You can experience all the romance and adventure of staying in a traditional tented camp, knowing it has only been in its current location for less than a week, which really heightens the sense of exploration on your safari. However, despite taking you back to basics, the camp offers plenty of luxurious touches to make your stay comfortable.
The five tented rooms have a comfortable double bed, an en suite bathroom and a separate shower room with hot bucket showers. The main mess tent has a spacious living area and also a dining area if the weather does not permit you to dine outside. Most meals are spent around the camp fire with the sounds of the African bush all around you.
The service and guiding at Savute are excellent, you will want for nothing and come away with a truly memorable and authentic African safari experience.
