However, if you like the idea of seclusion, beautiful scenery, tropical forests, hiking, snorkeling, sailing, white sandy beaches and wildlife you will find yourself booking to come back before you’ve even left the island.
Named after an iguana shaped rock found on the south side of the island, Guana Island has been occupied since the 18th century, but it wasn’t until 1975 that the facilities were improved making it an appealing destination for nature lovers. Guana Island offers guests a fabulous service, a social as well as a private atmosphere, wonderful rooms, fine dining and a relaxing vibe amongst natural surroundings. It has been minimally developed to deliberately retain a rustic feel and they are committed to conserving the beauty and wildlife. You will find lizards, pelicans, insects, variety of birds and even harmless snakes.
The island accommodates no more than 35 guests in 19 types of accommodation. There is a selection of cottages and villas for you to choose from depending upon your preferences. The rooms are individually decorated and are named after local islands. The rooms were renovated in 2012 and offer wonderful sea views and ultimate comfort in a peaceful and private atmosphere.
Dining on Guana Island plays a big part in your stay. Breakfast and lunches are buffet style while dinner is a more sociable affair. Seating plans give you an opportunity to mingle with other guests and possibly make friends for life as well as ensuring you benefit from different views while you dine. However, you can of course choose to dine privately.
The beaches on the island consist of beautiful white sands, palm trees and turquoise waters – idyllic. On the main beach there is a beach house with showers, restrooms, lockers and a bar. There are comfortable loungers dotted along the sands. You can take out a full body length float, a paddle board or a kayak to enjoy some time marveling at the crystal clear waters. There is also some great snorkeling. Head inland for some magnificent hiking trails to spot some wildlife or to the orchard to learn about the food grown on the islands and to taste the delicious coconuts and sugar cane.
A stay on Guana Island whether it is for a couple of nights or a couple of weeks is magical with its beautiful scenery and service to match, so much so that many guests find themselves returning year after year.
