Mount Fanjing
Located in Tongren, Mount Fanjing is the highest peak of the Wuling Mountains. A sacred mountain in Chinese Buddhism, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018. Due to its relative isolation, a high biodiversity can be found in the Fanjingshan National Nature Reserve, including the elusive Guizhou golden monkey, Chinese giant salamander, forest musk deer and Reeve's pheasant.
Known as the "gateway to eastern Guizhou", the city of Tongren lies on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau on the undulating Jinjiang River. This stunningly scenic area is home to spectacular caves, verdant primeval forests, limestone karsts and the Fanjing Mountain National Nature Reserve, China's fifth largest Buddhist mountain.
Discover the sacred beauty of Fanjing Mountain, celebrated by the Buddhist faith as one of China’s holy mountains. Endangered animals such as the Guizhou golden monkey and the clouded leopard hide on the mist-shrouded slopes, and Buddhist temples adorn the craggy peaks. Nearby, the Nine-Dragon Cave Scenic Area is home to a vast network of limestone caves, dripping with stalactites and stalagmites.
In Chinese Buddhism, the mountain is considered a "position of awakening" where devotees reached the enlightenment akin to that of the Maitreya Buddha.
