El Remanso Lodge

Set among 185 acres of pristine rainforest on Costa Rica's Pacific Coast, El Remanso is a small, owner-operated eco-lodge offering 12 simple yet incredibly stylish cabins and suites, along with a separate four-bedroom villa suitable for larger groups and families. It’s a bumpy ride to get here, but well worth it. If you love the idea of being cut off from the outside world, then we think you’ll adore it here. In line with El Remanso’s ecological policies, the accommodations are built from beautiful tropical hardwoods, all of which come from fallen timber from the lodge’s private nature reserve. Most are semi-open to the air, and a feeling of warmth is created by the use of hardwoods for the furniture. A hot-water shower is separated from the rest of the cabin by a beautiful stucco wall and offers great views of the tropical gardens, the forest and the ocean. All have a porch or deck, where you can sit or swing for hours in your hammock, watching the bird life or the wild monkeys climbing in the nearby trees, and listening to the jungle orchestra.

You will be served a variety of tasty, fresh food from the lodge restaurant. On-staff naturalists and guides help you get to know the local flora and fauna, and the staff and delightfully helpful and friendly. The property includes an extensive trail system, which lets you discover the magic of the primary rainforest and observe the abundant wildlife surrounding the lodge, and the observant hiker can spot sloths, kinkajous, eagles, toucans and parrots, even perhaps a jaguar or an ocelot. Beyond the forest is a near-deserted beach, where you can explore tide pools, take a dip, or just relax on the sand.

A wide variety of activities can be enjoyed at El Remanso, and the highly knowledgeable guides will help you enjoy thrilling waterfall rappelling, early-morning bird-watching, interpretative jungle hikes or a canopy tree platform tour, while away from the lodge excursions such as dolphin-watching in Golfo Dulce, horseback rides through the rainforest and beach, surfing on the famous Matapalo breaks or hiking on a day tour in Corcovado National Park can all easily be arranged
