Alexandria

The Mediterranean city of Alexandria dominates Egypt’s northern coastline. It’s a mix of cultural highlights, ancient history and sandy beaches. Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, its imposing Pharos Lighthouse was one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and the library was one of the world’s greatest ancient reading rooms. Today, its history is reignited in museums and cultural attractions.

Alexandria

Bibliotheca Alexandrina is the first must-see city sight. Its impressive architecture aims to capture the essence of the old Library of Alexandria, and create a center for cultural excellence. Qaitbay Citadel is a 15th century fortress built on the site of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse, and now home to a naval museum. There are also Greco-Roman sites to explore, and the Montaza Palace offers a lovely place to wander amidst beautifully landscaped gardens with a view of blue ocean waves. A stroll along the Corniche is a pleasant way to end the day as the sun sets over the Mediterranean.
