One of the French Riviera’s most famous hotels, the Hôtel Martinez has played host to countless film stars and aristocrats since it was first opened in 1929. Known for its warm hospitality and unstuffy service, the hotel has recently undergone a stylish renovation merging modern design and comforts, with original Art Deco features. This has included a new private beach club, spa, and fitness center, along with revamped accommodation.
The hotel’s light and welcoming lobby has retained the 1930s architecture and sleek lines of the past but has now been updated with a makeover that includes a modern chandelier and contemporary art. The glorious spiral staircase with its wrought iron banister has been restored to its former glory, ideal for making a movie star entrance. While the largely blue, white, and pale gold palette echoes the marine and beach culture of the Riviera, while still retaining the hotel’s glamorous vibe.
Hôtel Martinez is now part of the Hyatt’s exclusive new brand, the Unbound Collection and guests can choose from a variety of rooms and suites. All share the blue and white hues of the shared spaces, white lacquer furniture, desk, and seating area. Amenities include Wi-Fi, climate control, LED TV, tea and coffee making facilities, minibar, and safety deposit box. Ensuite bathrooms feature rainfall shower or bathtub, premium bath products, hairdryer, robe, and slippers. For a sea view trade up to a Premium Sea View Room, while families can book a Family Room sleeping up to five guests, which is comprised of a Junior Suite and a Premium City View Room.
The suites all include a private terrace, but again you’ll have to trade up to a Junior or Prestige Suite Sea View for those fabulous vistas. For al fresco privacy, the Suite des Olivers sleeps up to three and includes a separate bedroom, living and dining room, along with a huge private terrace furnished with loungers, sofas and dining table, making it ideal for entertaining. Alternatively, the two recently unveiled Penthouse Suites boast two bedrooms, two bathrooms, dining room, sauna, and sprawling terrace with Jacuzzi, for relaxing in movie star style.
Foodies will be interested to learn that the Martinez has the only two-star restaurant on the Riviera, the famed La Palme d’Or, overseen by Christian Sinicropi. Featuring an al fresco terrace overlooking La Croisette, both the quality of the food and the enchanted setting make a meal here worth the indulgence. Guests can also choose to dine in the newly opened Le Jardin du Martinez serving Provencal cuisine within a Mediterranean garden or enjoy a drink at the adjacent Martinez Bar.
The hotel also has a new private beach club, La Plage du Martinez, where you will find a chic bistrot for informal snacks and lunches. The beach club includes L’Oasis du Martinez, where you will find an inviting outdoor heated pool, the luxe Spa par Carita and modern fitness center.
