Mount Athos

Considered one of the holiest sites in the Orthodox Christian world, the peninsula of Mount Athos is perhaps the most important cultural and religious landmark in the region. Referred to as the “Holy Mountain”, the site is a perfect location for those interested in stunning Orthodox architecture and artwork, only improved further by the outstanding natural beauty of the surrounding area. Trips to the area are considerably restricted; women are currently prohibited from visiting and there's a strict behavioral code in place.
