Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – dry (between May to September) and wet (between October to April) – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. In most parts of Indonesia, the wet season falls between October and April and the dry season between May and September. December and January see Bali at its most humid and rain tends to come in sudden tropical downpours, but it can also rain for more prolonged periods.

Itinerary

Day 1-3

Java, Indonesia

Your epic Indonesian adventure begins on the island of Java, where you will spend two nights amongst rolling green hills at a charming boutique resort, just a stone’s throw from one of the most impressive temple complexes in the world! Your driver will be waiting for you at the airport in Yogyakarta to whisk you off your hotel in Borobudur, just as soon as you’ve picked up your luggage. It shouldn’t be long before you’re checked into your villa, cooling off in your own private swimming pool and toasting the start of your trip with a welcome cocktail. There’s an indulgent spa as well for those who want to feel rejuvenated after the long journey.

The property lends itself to relaxation but there are also scenic walks and bike rides into the surrounding hills and nearby villages for those who want to stretch their legs. Or how about a cooking class? The next morning head to the magnificent Borobudur temple complex, one of Southeast Asia’s most notable sites.

Accommodation: Plataran Borobudur Resort & Spa ( 2 nights )
Day 3-6

Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

A short flight from Yogyakarta will take you to Indonesia’s most famed island of Bali, where you will be transferred to the charming hilltop town of Ubud, often referred to as the island’s cultural heart. There’s something really special about this place, some say its spiritual, but whatever you believe in, the laidback vibe is seriously addictive. Ubud offers sensational scenery, think a photogenic sea of terraced rice paddies, jungle clad rolling hills, traditional communities with strong cultural roots and some of the island’s most luxurious accommodation.

Sitting amongst terraced rice fields and beautiful jungle, the Como Shambhala Estate is a fly-and-flop resort promising a more personalized approach to a spa retreat than its rivals. The spring water is sacred, revered by Balinese for its healing properties and is pumped uphill to the vitality treatment pool. In the center of the resort is the peaceful spa offering traditional treatments as well as alternative treatments including reflexology, ayurveda and iridology. For those seeking absolute seclusion and privacy, the chic villas with their traditional alang-alang roofs come complete with almost all white interiors and stunning private pools.

Located just a short drive out of Bali’s cultural hub,Ubud is easy enough to explore independently. As you amble around the village, you’ll get a sense of what local Balinese life is really like. There are plenty of picturesque little temples and colourful markets to stop at. We’ve organized an immersive experience that will give you privileged access to a traditional Balinese family home, where you have the opportunity to participate in a unique activity – the making of religious offerings. You’ll also have a chance to witness a series of fascinating rituals and ceremonies that concludes with a typical lunch with your new friends.

For those seeking more action, there are plenty of other things to do, including some pretty challenging hikes (as well as more gentle walks in the countryside too), white-water rafting, tubing, ATV tours and even freewheeling down the side of a volcano on a bike for the real thrill seekers. Street food tours and cooking classes are also popular activities in Ubud and are a great introduction to the country’s diverse cuisine.

Accommodation: COMO Shambhala Estate ( 3 nights )
Day 6-10

Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park, Komodo and Flores, Indonesia

Today, you will be driven back to the airport to catch a flight to Labuan Bajo where you will board your luxury liveaboard cruise before setting sail around a series of unexplored islands, pods of dolphins following you as you glide through the waters. The boat itself is a gorgeous wooden vessel with billowing red sails and a fabulous crew on hand to make the journey truly special. Enjoy a few wild days exploring the waters and islands of Komodo National Park, home to rich and varied marine life, untouched beaches and the mighty Komodo Dragon itself.

There are superb facilities onboard and plenty of space up on the deck to lounge around in the sun. During the day you’ll hop off to visit remote beaches, hike through jungle trails to lookout points and kayak through mangroves in search of wildlife, the three-meter long, dinosaur-like Komodo Dragon being the most sought-after photo opportunity! Whether you’re an experienced diver or an amateur snorkeller, the warm crystal-clear waters are teeming with colourful corals, tropical fish and turtles so you have your camera ready to capture some fantastic underwater footage. As the evening draws in, the crew will find a secluded beach and setup a romantic picnic, think bean bags, bonfire, fruity cocktails and yummy canapés as you relax and watch the sun melt away on the horizon. Back onboard the chef serves up delicious meals taking inspiration from around the world, while you sit on the open deck, sails flapping in the wind and the moon reflecting over the glistening water.

Accommodation: Tiger Blue ( 4 nights )
Day 10-11

Jimbaran Bay, Bali, Indonesia

After four nights away at sea you’ll return to Bali for one positioning night on Jimbaran Bay, famed as one of Bali's best beaches and supremely convenient for the airport. Spend the afternoon lazing around beside the pool while working on your tan and then enjoy the ultimate romantic dinner. With tables set up on the beach and candles flickering in the warm wind, you can feast on the day's freshest catch as the sun sets over the ocean turning the sky a deep shade of orange and purple.

Accommodation: Belmond Jimbaran Puri ( 1 night )
Day 11-15

Sumba Island, Remote Indonesian islands, Indonesia

It’s just a short flight from Bali to the nearby island of Sumba, followed by a scenic 90-minute overland journey passing traditional settlements, waterfalls and dense tropical jungle, before you reach a one of a kind beach escape. On an exclusive and deserted long stretch of golden sand, you’ll find the spectacularly luxurious eco-resort of Nihi Sumba, it’s a far-flung destination, but it promises an unforgettable ending to your Indonesian adventure.

The villas and treehouses come in a variety of shapes and sizes, all boast wonderful sea views, sizeable terraces, grand beds and private infinity pools. There’s definitely an air of surfer’s paradise mixed with tropical flair, contemporary styling and décor, finished off with a tasteful dousing of luxury. It’s all about the laidback, beach-chic vibe, with a healthy helping of wellness and sustainability thrown in for good measure.

Did we mention the private butler? No matter what, they are on hand to help organize an array of activities including hiking, horse-riding along the beach, surfing lessons, yoga and fishing to name just a few. We highly recommend the NihiOka spa safari, a unique and special experience that involves a sunrise trek through the natural surroundings, breakfast served on a secluded stretch of coastline, followed by a spa treatment in a private cliffside treatment room – truly an experience not to be missed!

Of course, it’s your vacation, so if all you want to do is chillout beside the gorgeous infinity pool, catch up on your favorite podcasts and work your way through the extensive cocktail list while ordering nasi goreng and (not traditional) tacos, then so be it! We won’t judge.
