Ashford Castle
  • Stay in a proud and distinguished castle full of tradition

  • Experience fine dining in George V Restaurant built over 100 years ago

  • Try your hand at archery, clay pigeon shooting, fishing and many more activities in the estate

  • Overlooking Ireland's second largest lake Lough Corrib

Ashford Castle dates from the 13th century and elements of the original structure remain. Added to through the course of history the castle is now an amazing amalgam of architecture with the French style chateau parts added in the 18th century and then Victorian additions added later. What is left for the lucky guest is a hotch-potch of Architectural detail and a fabulous 5 star hotel that has been open as a luxury destination since 1939.

Since 1915 the hotel has achieved its iconic status with film stars, producers and statesmen alike staying under its eaves and it has been voted one of the top 50 resort properties in Europe on numerous occasions. Its location on the banks of Lough Corrib in the heart of the famed region of Connemara makes it the perfect base for exploring the relatively unspoiled West of Ireland.

The hotel manages to appeal to couples seeking rest and relaxation and a romantic setting as well as families keen to explore the area and partake in an array of amazing outdoor activities. Everything from water-skiing, fishing and boating on the lake, to golf, horse-riding, biking and hiking not to mention a wonderful list of treatments available in one of the three treatment rooms.

With 82 rooms it is by no means a vast hotel but does have something for everyone with historic staterooms perfect for couples and family rooms that can accommodate up to 4. All guests are spoiled for choice with dining options. The glorious George V Dining Room with its 11 Waterford Crystal chandeliers has a resident pianist and offers fine dining prepared by chef Stefan Matz. Cullen's at the Cottage on the other hand offers a more laid back and traditional setting in a thatched cottage with local delicacies and international dishes served here. Cullen's at the Dungeon has more traditional cuisine but is in a remarkable setting underneath the castle and surrounded by suits of armour, breast plates, crest of arms and stained glass windows.

Ashford Castle is the place to stay West of the Shannon where the natural beauty of Connemara surrounds and the luxury and 5 star service of this iconic hotel awaits you.
