Nagoya
Japan’s fourth largest city and a major port, Nagoya developed as a castle town during the Edo period. Since damage caused by the air raids of 1945, many of the city’s historic buildings have been restored and highlights include Nagoya Castle, the Atsuta Shrine, the Osu Kannon Buddhist temple and the observation deck of the 245-meter tall JR Central Towers.
There are plenty of museums and attractions in Nagoya including the Railway Museum, Science Museum, with one of the world’s largest planetariums and two Toyota-related museums. The Tokugawa Art Museum has collections dating from the Edo Period and sits within a stunning Japanese garden or for more contemporary thrills visit Nagashima Spaland theme park, famous for its spectacular roller coasters.
