Japan has four seasons and is best visited in spring from March to May and autumn from September to November. December to January can be cold with snow and the summer is hot and humid. The end of March and early April is a particularly good time to visit as this is the cherry blossom season as is October for the autumn colors.
Itinerary
Tokyo, Japan
Begin your exploration of fascinating Japan in the exciting capital, Tokyo. During your time in the city we have included a full day tour of the city with a private guide, using the efficient public transport system. This is a brilliant way to see the city, beating the traffic, with a local who can show you how everything works for when you wish to venture out on your own later. There is so much to do and see in the city but as a start we have included visits for you for the Imperial Palace Gardens, the exclusive shopping at Ginza and the bright lights of Shinjuku. The next day, spend the morning with a private guide exploring Tsukiji Outer Market before a sushi master class where you will prepare a lunch of delicious sushi. On your last evening, discover hidden gems of the city on a private food tour.

Hiroshima, Japan
After Tokyo, take the train to Hiroshima for your next two nights. We have included a full day tour with a private guide starting with a ferry over to picturesque Miyajima island. The island feels like a step back in time, and the striking red ‘floating’ Tori gate set in the sea off the coastline is a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the afternoon head back to Hiroshima for a visit to the Peace Memorial Park and museum as well as the A-Bomb Dome. On your last evening in Hiroshima, discover the city’s izakaya, or pubs, mingling with the locals while sampling local dishes.

Kyoto, Japan
Take the train to Japan’s cultural center, Kyoto, with hundreds of Shinto and Buddhist shrines and temples to explore, a beautiful Geisha district and a rich history. As there is so much to do and see in Kyoto we have included a full day guided tour of the city so that you get the most out of your time here. Kyoto is also famed for its foodie scene and culture and we have included a visit to the buzzing Nishiki Market for you, full interesting market stalls.

Gora, Japan
From Kyoto, head to Hakone for two nights experiencing a traditional ryokan. Known for its onsens, or natural hot spring baths, Hakone has long been known as an area for relaxation and over your two nights here spend your days exploring the surrounding countryside with some beautiful hikes or visiting one of the many fantastic art museums in the region. Each evening, you will be treated to incredible multi-course Kaiseki cuisine with each course beautifully presented with amazing detail.

Tokyo
For your final night in Japan, you’ll head to Tokyo at just a short 45-minute bullet train transfer from Odawara. Here visit sites that you missed on your first stay in the city and allow us to recommend one of our favorite restaurants for you, as your grand finale on the journey before heading home the following day.
