Itinerary

Fly to Chiang Mai via Bangkok
Day 1-4

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Your amazing adventure begins in Chiang Mai, Thailand’s cultural northern hub, surrounded by mountains, jungle and lush green paddy fields. Upon arrival, you’ll be met at the airport and whisked off to your boutique bolthole, located on the banks of the Ping River, right in the center of town. Artistically designed to reflect the building’s history, dating back to 1889, think free standing Victorian baths, elegant four poster beds, beautiful teak furnishings and ornamental Oriental influences. Your private butler will be ready to welcome you with a refreshing lemongrass face towel and your choice of drink to help you relax. There’s an inviting pool set amidst the tranquil tropical gardens and therapists at the spa to pamper your body and mind.

To help you get acquainted with the area we have included a couple of fun and perhaps more unusual guided excursions. The first is a scenic bike ride around the Sri Lanna National Park. There are some great photos opportunities as you pedal past small rural communities and ox grazing in the paddy fields. Later on, swap your bike for a kayak and paddle out across a gorgeous placid lake, stopping at a floating bamboo raft house for a delicious traditional lunch and refreshing swim in the water. You’ll be back at your hotel in time for a spruce up, before heading out to dinner.

The following afternoon, join your guide for a spiritual discovery of Chiang Mai, starting with a walk around the city’s ancient walls, it’s particularly stunning as the sun illuminates the glittering tops of temples and pagodas. Then climb the 309 stairs up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, one the area’s prettiest temple complexes, to witness a gorgeous sunset over the city below and receive a blessing from the monks who live here, while they begin their magical evening chant.

Accommodation: 137 Pillars House ( 3 nights )
Day 4-6

Chiang Rai, Thailand

The next morning embark on a spectacular overland journey through the wilderness as you head towards the heart of the Golden Triangle, close to the border with Myanmar, Laos and the mighty Mekong River. Tucked into 160 acres of ancient jungle, your hotel is a stunning place to stay while exploring this fascinating historical, cultural and adventurous region. The low-key resort seamlessly fuses Thai architecture and décor with international high standards and luxurious flourishes. Its unique onsite elephant camp modelled on a traditional mahout village is the perfect place to become acquainted with these gentle giants first-hand.

Step out onto your balcony in the morning to watch the mist rise up over the jungle and spend the day exploring the area, trekking alongside the rescued elephants and bathing them in the river, visit traditional hill tribes or simply watch the world go by as you float down the Mekong on a traditional long-tail boat. For the more adventurous, there are remote treks and mountain biking excursions along winding trails.

After all that excitement, why not visit to Anantara's signature spa, perched high above the jungle, it uses ancient Thai remedies along with pioneering treatments from across the globe to ensure a revitalising experience. Alternatively make a splash in the magnificent free form infinity-edged swimming pool, order an ice-cold beer and enjoy an unforgettable sunset over the forest canopy and Mekong River.

Accommodation: Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort ( 2 nights )
Day 6-7

Mekong River, Laos

It’s not at all far to the border with Laos where you’ll embark on an unforgettable cruise along the Mekong, headed towards Luang Prabang in the heart of Northern Laos. Traveling by boat, onboard a luxurious converted rice barge is the most luxurious way to enjoy this remote and scenic region, a typical highlight on any trip to Laos. Recline in your wicker chair and enjoy the gentle breeze, while sipping on ice-cold cocktails and taking in the sights and sounds of traditional Laotian life passing you by. Stop for the night at Luang Say lodge, a comfortable wooden lodge on the banks of the river and enjoy the simple life in a rural hamlet.

Accommodation: Luang Say Cruise ( 1 night )
Day 7-9

Bangkok, Thailand

There’s time for one final stop on this epic adventure! Today you’ll take a short flight across to Bangkok, Thailand’s vibrant and buzzing capital, where cutting-edge gleaming skyscrapers contrast with ornamental ancient temples and bustling floating markets. Upon arrival you’ll be chauffeured to your minimalist hotel, an urban escape that combines edgy modern style with typical Asian flair. Located along the lively Sathorn Road, it’s without doubt the coolest hotel in Bangkok. It’s ideal for those who want to be amongst the action yet desire a luxurious relaxing retreat at the end of a busy day. The hotel’s infamous Met Bar is a sanctuary of elegance and fun and is one of the city’s coolest hangouts.

Alternatively, head up to one of the city’s high-rise rooftop bars to toast your trip and enjoy dizzying views over the sprawling metropolis and twinkling skyline.

We’ve crammed in an action-packed day, featuring some of Bangkok’s highlights, including a visit to the famous colorful floating markets where vendors jostle their boats along the canals, selling exotic produce and spicy snacks. Later, join a guided foodie tour and stroll through the streets of Bangrak, soaking up the fervent atmosphere and sampling a selection of tastings, ranging from the traditional to the rather more unusual, guaranteed to excite your taste buds!

Make the most of your last day, flag down a tuk-tuk and whizz around to see a few more of the city’s sights or simply chill beside the pool, before a transfer back to the airport to check in for your flight home.
