Location
The Colca Lodge is located 170 Km north from Arequipa City in the middle of the Colca Valley, at 3,250 meters above sea level.
The Colca Lodge is a rustic-style lodge set at 3,250 meters above sea level and 3 hours from the city of Arequipa in the heart of Peru's famous Colca Valley amongst ancient Inca terraces and overlooking the Colca River with its thermal springs.
Great base for excursions to Condor Cross to see magnificent condors as they soar on the thermals
Decorated in a rustic style blending harmoniously with the Andean landscape
Has its own thermal springs, located at the bottom of the valley next to the Colca River
A very scenic 3-hour drive from colonial Arequipa
The construction of the lodge was inspired by Incan architecture and it is built almost entirely of stone, mud bricks and thatch.
The rooms are rustic in style with thatched roofs, adobe walls and simple in design yet cozy and are adorned with local handicrafts. The lodge is very eco-friendly; bathrooms are supplied with hot water from solar panels and they are currently implementing an ecological heating system which uses the geothermal energy sourced on site.
Guests can relax in the lounge by the fireplace, on the terrace or at the lodges own thermal springs, whose water comes from volcanic sources. Wallow in the thermal baths at night under the bright starry Andean sky. There is a fantastic spa offering a variety of massages and facial treatments and three great restaurants two of which serve Alpandina cuisine, a delicious fusion of Andean and alpine techniques.
For something more active there are short walks to nearby ruins, riding, mountain biking and white-water rafting. The Colca Canyon is reportedly the deepest in the world, thought to be twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the USA. Another highlight is the sightings of Andean condors at close range as they float on the rising thermals.
When to visit
Go star gazing in the thermal baths, choose a clear night and you might be lucky enough to see some meteors shooting in the night sky.
