Lake Mburo National Park
Located in the south-west of Uganda, Lake Mburo National Park is halfway between Entebbe or Kampala and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, making it great for a stopover on the way to or from the gorillas. However, this small park is well worth a visit in its own right as its lakes play host to a wide variety of wildlife. It's also the only area of the country to see Burchell’s zebra, eland and impala.
Lake Mburo National Park contains five lakes, of which Lake Mburo is the largest. The lakes are connected by wetlands that give way to open savannah and acacia woodland, each terrain contributing to the diverse wildlife of the park. The lack of 'traditional' safari animals, such as elephants, to tame the vegetation has resulted in abundant forest permeated by rocky outcrops, attracting over 300 species of birds. It's the perfect location for a walking or horseback safari. Boat trips on Lake Mburo are always rewarding with the chance to spot hippo, crocodile and water birds, and experience a safari from a unique perspective.
