Steeped in history and character, the luxury, Hotel Jerome has been welcoming guests since 1889 to the heart of Aspen, and offers a glance back to the days of the 'Wild West' silver boom.
This historic hotel in Aspen's town center is a little gem, full of charm and character
The style is 'Grand Western' with lots of original features
Rooms are traditional Wild West, grand and generously proportioned
Enjoy a pre-prohibition cocktail in the refined Library Bar, or for an authentic saloon experience, head straight for the J-Bar
Walk into the Hotel Jerome and you'll be warmly greeted in true Colorado style by bellmen in cowboy hats and boots! Many original features remain, from the original front desk to the gold ceilings in the Library bar and J-bar. Walls are plastered with framed pages from old newspapers, offering a fascinating insight into life in Aspen in the early 1900s, and makes for entertaining reading on the way to your room! You'll be in good company - guests who have stayed at the hotel include John Wayne and Gary Cooper, and Hunter S Thompson was a regular at the J-Bar.
The Jerome's rooms and suites have all been recently renovated but are still uniquely decorated incorporating the grand Western style of the 1900s with modern quirks.
Head to J-Bar in the evening for a lively and authentic saloon experience, or for a more refined atmosphere, relax in a cozy armchair in the Living room and enjoy a pre-prohibition cocktail with some tapas or a light bite. The newest restaurant is the Prospect which offers hearty contemporary dishes using the mining era as a strong influence in its food.
After skiing, soothe tired muscles in the hotel's own outdoor heated pool and hot tub and the new Auberge spa. The new hotel spa has a wide selection of treatments and uses some great products local to the area. Alternatively guests have access to The Aspen Club & Spa, a private sports club and rejuvenating spa, with 34 treatment rooms offering a variety of massages and treatments.
While there are no specific childcare facilities, the Jerome is very family friendly. And we thoroughly recommend the hotel for couples or older families looking for Rocky Mountain authenticity.
When to visit
During prohibition, the men used to drink Aspen Crud (a whisky milkshake) in the bars while the women waited in the glass ceilinged atrium of the lobby. Because women of repute did not wear makeup in those days, the glass was rose-tinted to flatter them!
