Flatdogs Camp
Flatdogs Camp is a wonderful safari camp in the Mfuwe area of Zambia’s South Luangwa. Flatdogs is very family-friendly and even has a treehouse for sleeping in.
Flatdogs Camp is a superb South Luangwa camp with wonderful guiding and offering excellent value for money. There is a wide variety of accommodation options and Flatdogs is very family-friendly: there are seven en-suite chalets with private balconies including a two-bedroom family chalet; seven en-suite Meru-style luxury tents with incredible views of the Luangwa River or a lagoon; five standard tents, substantially smaller and simpler than the luxury tents, and lacking the views and comfort; and a fantastic treehouse built around three stunning jackalberry trees and raised two meters off the ground. Located a few minutes' drive from the main camp, the treehouse is entirely open at the front with views across a lagoon, and has two bedrooms, a living and dining area and a radio so that guests can arrange for private meals if they wish.
Sandy pathways lead to the beautifully maintained public areas at Flatdogs surround a central courtyard, and include an open-sided restaurant, a well-stocked bar and a large swimming pool where the occasional hippo or crocodile have been known to take a dip! Flatdogs Camp also has a small shop and internet access.
The quality of guiding at Flatdogs Camp is extremely high, and wildlife activities include game drives in open vehicles, walking safaris and night drives. Flatdogs’ walking safaris are a particularly fine way of experiencing this pristine wilderness first hand. There are 60 different mammal species and over 400 different bird species in the park, and guests can expect to see large elephant herds, reaching up to 70 in number. Buffalo are abundant and hippos can frequently be seen along the river banks. Thornicroft's giraffe is unique to the Luangwa Valley and should also be easily spotted.
