Situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, in the heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park, Sausage Tree Camp specializes in excellent game viewing in authentic safari style – without sacrificing an inch of luxury. Nestling in the shade of mature sausage and mahogany trees, each of the eight sumptuous Bedouin-style canvas tents is attended by a personal mchinda (butler), has a private open-air bathroom and a four-poster bed complete with flowing white mosquito nets.

Additionally, the family house, Kigelia House consists of two bedrooms both with en-suite bathrooms, a large plunge pool, fully stocked bar and dining table for private meals. The huge open-plan living area is furnished with leather loungers, day bed and sundeck chairs. A beautiful teak deck sweeping across the entire front of the suite offers amazing panoramic views. Kigelia House is ideally suited to small groups (two couples) and/or families. Both bedrooms are large enough to accommodate a third bed on request.

Meals can be taken under the African sky or in the huge open dining tent on the banks of the Zambezi. As the camp is totally unfenced, you may even be joined by a hippo or other four-legged visitor. As well as game drives and guided walking safaris, guests can also venture onto the mighty Zambezi for canoeing, boating and fishing for the renowned tiger fish. There is also a 25-meter lap pool right on the edge of the river where you can cool off on a hot day. Sausage Tree camp is currently the only camp in Zambia to offer the superb service of a private guide for each group of guests at no additional costs.

Scenic boat cruises are also on offer and provide the perfect opportunity to watch animals as they come down to the river to drink and bathe, as well as marveling at unique water wildlife such as the huge hippo pods and crocodile populations. From the boat you can also enjoy spectacular African sunsets, while drifting gently on the water enjoying floating sundowners.

Then last but by no means least, the camp offers incredible walking safaris; the ideal way to learn about the smaller creatures, trees and plants, and all of the different track and signs. Zambia was the birthplace of walking safaris and remains the best place in the world for them.

Then for those that are in search of sport rather than game viewing the Zambezi River is host to some of the most spectacular fresh water sport fishing in the world. The infamous tiger fish is probably the most popular quarry here, with large carnivorous teeth the tiger fish can grow up to 15kg and are renowned for their fighting spirit and strength. The camp supplies all fishing equipment and has expert fishing guides and a range of boats to suit all enthusiasts.
