Tok Tokkie Trails

Exploring the desert with expert guides from Tok Tokkie evokes safaris from yesteryear.  With simple facilities and limited communication to the outside world, this three day walking safari takes you back to nature to discover the secrets of the desert.  Let your guide introduce you to this vast and little explored land and discover the changing landscapes from mountainous terrain to sandy dunes.  Watch the desert come to life and uncover the different species which survive in this harsh habitat such as the small tok tokkie beetle, the dancing spider, bat eared fox or enjoy the rewarding sight of a lone oryx standing proud on a sand dune looking out across the empty wilderness.

Groups sizes vary from two to eight guests, all of which are lead by professional guides.  Tok Tokkie is very much an outside experience and certainly for the more adventurous traveller.  All members of the group will be given their own stretcher bed and bedroll while bathroom facilities at camp are shared and basic, comprising of a bush loo, bucket shower and hand basin.  If the weather is unfavourable tents will be provided for sleeping and dining at the discretion of the guide.  While sleeping under the stars is a magical experience, nights can be cold so warm jumpers and fleeces are recommended and scarf and hat especially during winter months between June and August when temperatures can drop as low as -5*C but do reach 25*C during the day.

Drinking water is provided throughout the safari and available at meal times, however you will be required to take water bottles to fill up each day. There are no charging facilities so be sure to bring a spare camera battery as well.  A day pack will be provided for you to carry your essentials such as snacks and water, sun cream and sunhat while out walking and your main luggage will be transported to your camp by the back up team.
