This is a year-round itinerary, but July to January is the best time of year. If travelling over Christmas/New Year or over Carnival, be sure to book as far in advance as possible, as space at this time is severely restricted. April to July is the wettest season (though it can rain at any time) and June to September bring slightly cooler evenings.

Fly to Rio de Janeiro

Day 1-4

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This family adventure to Brazil begins in the iconic beachfront city of Rio de Janeiro, with a wealth of attractions ensuring that families have plenty of entertainment. After you have time to settle into your room, take some time to acclimatise using the hotels wonderful facilities, relax with a refreshing swim and evening meal. The following day you will start with a full day tour of the key highlights of Rio. Start the day with a market tour, bursting with vibrant flavour and colours you will be led through a myriad of stalls, where your guide will highlight the local produce as you go and the vendors will be more than happy for you to taste their products as you go.

After the market tour you will head to the Christ the Redeemer statue to soak up the beautiful and varied sights of Rio below. You will be blown away by the view of the whole city including Copacabana, Ipanema beaches, the Lagoon, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Guanabara Bay, and Niterói City. The next stop will be Santa Teresa, a unique part of Rio located on the hills with old houses, and narrow streets. You can feel the art, music, and historical atmosphere come alive as you travel the area. Followed by a drive through Lapa, where you will visit the world-famous Selarón Stairs. The end of the day will finish on a high with a cable car ride up Sugar Loaf Mountain, one of the city’s most famous landmarks.

The following morning you will try your hand at some surfing. Head to the Barra da Tijuca beach, perfect for beginners with its small and middle-sized waves that allow you to learn to surf safely, where you will learn the basics and find out which member of the family has the skills to stand up on the board the longest.

After your energetic morning you can spend some time relaxing in the hotel, hit the beach or explore more of Rio at your leisure.

Day 4-5

Manaus, Amazon, Brazil

After your three nights in Rio you will picked up and taken to the airport where you will fly to Manaus. Where your transfer will meet you and take you to the Villa Amazônia Hotel, where you will stay for one night to rest before your onwards journey to the Amazon Rainforest.

Day 5-8

Amazon, Brazil

After breakfast you will picked up from your hotel for the three-hour transfer to the gorgeous Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge in the Amazon Rainforest. Check in and spend the rest of the day at your leisure enjoying the lodge facilities and taking in the breathtaking scenery. During your stay here you will have a choice of exhilarating activities that you can all enjoy together from the lodge. Pick and choose what you would like to do over the next two days.

The lodge offers a vast range of exciting activities for all the family to enjoy, such as canoeing through the Igapós, and Igarapés in dug-out canoes, bird watching, jungle walks and fishing. Exploring the many islands and observing their unique ecosystems, visit to the Amazonian pink river dolphins in Novo Airão, nocturnal sightseeing at Anavilhanas Archipelago, hiking through the forest with local guides, sunrise contemplation, practicing bow and arrow with original Waimiri-Atroari’s artifacts and visiting isolated local communities, where you will have the chance to get to know their lifestyle, traditions and agriculture. In your downtime between excursions you can enjoy the superb lodge facilities, take strolls at your leisure and enjoy the delicious food and friendly hospitality throughout your stay. Day 8-11

Salvador, Brazil

Your transfer will take the three-hour drive back to the airport for your flight to Salvador. You will be met at the airport and driven to Villa Bahia Hotel for the next few nights. Here you will be perfectly placed to enjoy everything this vibrant city has to offer. Home to gorgeous, cobbled streets and churches, great food, capoeira and sizzling music. Enjoy three nights here in the heart of the old town, getting under the skin of this charming and vibrant region.

After a relaxed first evening at the lovely Villa Bahia, the following day you can enjoy a guided tour of the energetic and culturally alive city. With percussion being at the heart of Bahia you get to enjoy a percussion workshop. Your guide will take you to meet a famous local musician where you can learn how to play a variety of beats with a percussion workshop. Here you can try an array of instruments including the formidable berimbau, the main instrument of the capoeira. This is a great option for families, and for those who have a passion for learning about another culture through their love of music.

After the percussion workshop you will embark on a fascinating historical city tour of Salvador. Firstly you will head to mouth of All Saints Bay as you weave towards Pelourinho via elegant tree-lined avenues, to the historical and cultural heart of Salvador. Your guide will take you to Municipal Square, by the towering Lacerda Elevator that connects the Upper City and the Downtown, taking in the astonishing view of the bay. You will have time to stroll in Pelourinho, or ‘Pelô’ as it is called by the locals, a neighborhood preserved as part of UNESCO cultural heritage. Walk the narrow streets, admiring the sites, and bustling sounds and the rich colonial Portuguese baroque architecture. The tour will include a visit to the São Francisco Church, and Pelourinho Square, the core of the old town, home to great craft shops, museums, restaurants, and bars. Here you can spend extra time mooching and you may spot somewhere for a delicious meal before your return to the hotel.

The following day you will be taken to visit FICA, the slower and subtler of the two forms of martial arts found in Brazil. To become a master on this art, it demands years of dedication to the finer details of it. Here we will meet with the capoeira group leaders, learn of the history and philosophy, try your hands on the instruments, and learn the basic movements.

You can then look forward to a panoramic Lower City tour, taking you to the quiet waters of the Itapagipe Peninsula where life moves at a slower pace than the bustling upper city. Fishermen fish from dug out canoes, locals collect shellfish at low tide, schooners lie at anchor, all protected by the famous Bonfim church, one of the most important churches of pilgrimage in Brazil. Visit the Montserrat district with its panoramic view of the city and then on to the Mercado Modelo, a thriving market for local goods, and souvenirs. Time to test your bargaining talents and find some local gems. You will then have the remainder of your day at leisure to soak up buzzing Salvador before you leave for the coast the following day.

Day 11-14

Itacare, Bahia, Brazil

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Ilhéus. Where you will be met at the airport and transferred to the stunning Txai Itacaré Resort. Sink into relaxation on the final stage of the itinerary, whilst you enjoy all the simple of pleasures of the beautiful Bahian coastline.

Spread across a hillside dotted with coconut groves, this environmentally responsible resort enjoys an impressive beachfront spot, built to blend seamlessly into the landscape.
