Central location with many of Copenhagen’s major landmarks within walking distance
An exquisite city hotel, Hotel Sanders is owned by a former dancer with the Danish Royal Ballet, Alexander Kølpin. Once the down at heel Opera Hotel, Kølpin commissioned the London based design studio, Lind + Almond to transform the space, creating a look which is both luxe and homely. Expect Danish mid-century furniture, a dash of colonial British elegance, plush fabrics, earthy hues, and high-end finishes. The end result appears to have evolved over decades of careful collecting and curating. There are wonderful contrasting spaces, such as the decadently dim and snugly elegant lounge area, as well as the light-flooded rooftop conservatory. Service is warm, personal and staff are intuitively helpful, particularly with local recommendations.
All 54 rooms have been individually styled taking inspiration from the opulence of the golden age of rail travel. There are big comfy beds, natural wood floors and a free minibar stocked with soft drinks, snacks, and treats. Bathrooms have a touch of industrial style, with smooth polished plaster and Ortigia toiletries. Coupé Rooms are for the solo traveller, while Coupé+ Rooms are described as snug doubles and are reminiscent of a compact luxury train compartment. For more space, book a Sanders Bedroom or Sanders Bedroom+ with plush lounge chairs. Or for apartment style living, the One Bedroom Suites have a separate lounge with handpicked furniture, for entertaining guests or kicking of your shoes and relaxing. The top of the range, Sanders Suite also has a fireplace, kitchenette and dining area, making it ideal for families. The hotel also offers connecting and accessible rooms.
Hotel Sanders is part of the neighbourhood and both the restaurant, Sanders Kitchen and the cocktail bar, TATA, have direct access from the street, so locals can easily drop by. Sanders Kitchen offers ‘bites,’ small dishes and mains. The food is accomplished and according to your mood can be served in the all-day bistro style dining area, up in the rooftop conservatory or in the lounge. TATA is full of retro glamour, with golden velvet armchairs, white-tuxed bar staff and superb cocktails. To make the most of your stay, the concierge service can advise on local recommendations and arrange trips and excursions. And while there is no spa or gym, the hotel is happy to book in-room treatments or organise a private trainer.
