The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa is one of the most unique places in Iceland; this huge geo-thermally heated lagoon holds six million litres of seawater, and is nestled within Iceland’s dramatic and barren landscape.
With water temperatures up to 37-39°C, the lagoon is heated by magmatic intrusions from below the earth’s surface. While winter air temperatures can drop below freezing, the bath-like warm waters make this a truly unique year-round experience.
Although completely manmade, the Blue Lagoon is set within a dramatic field of black basalt lava and its powder blue waters are enriched with natural mineral salts, white silica and blue-green algae.
The Blue Lagoon spa contains two steam baths, a sauna and waterfall, as well as relaxation and treatment areas. Treatments can be booked locally or in advance.
