With just 12 rooms, Diphlu River Lodge provides an intimate retreat and access Kaziranga National Park, spread over 430 square kilometres. This is a unique area of the world and is home to two-thirds of the world's population of endangered Indian one-horned rhinoceros and has the highest density of tigers in the world. With its unique and interesting topography, full of interconnecting lakes and streams and extensive grasslands this park is hugely different to others in India and spectacularly beautiful.
The rooms at Diphlu are arranged as individual cottages, set on stilts, and provide comfortable accommodation with private balconies. To encourage guests to really immerse in the surroundings, rooms do not come equipped with TVs but they do have air conditioning and provide a lovely welcome home after days on safari. What the accommodation lacks in additional amenities it makes up for in location, as it really is the only place to stay in the area giving you almost exclusive access to the spectacular surrounds.
As a small and intimate property, meals are served in the main Machan and the rice and vegetables are farmed onsite to produce the continental, north Indian and local dishes served. Included in the stay are daily game drives and even though tigers are generaly difficult to spot in the area due to the long grasses, there is a huge amount to see over this including an amazing array of birdlife for which the park is known for. Outside of the lodge and the experiences offered, visits to local villages, rubber plantations and tea gardens can all be arranged.
