Private Panama Canal Agua Clara Visitor’s Centre & City Tour
Immerse yourself in Panama City’s major attractions on a full day tour exploring the incredible Panama Canal, one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World, along with both a guided rainforest hike and tour of the capital’s UNESCO-listed Casco Viejo district.
One of the most impressive engineering projects in the world, the Panama Canal was built to connect the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans through the narrow isthmus of Panama and is one of the country’s major attractions.
This tour takes in the Agua Clara Visitor’s Centre which is on the Atlantic side of the canal in Colón by the new locks, with the opportunity to see the huge super-tankers navigate their passage through this iconic waterway. The views are superb and there are two viewing platforms allowing visitors to get a closer inspection of the canal, the ships, and the lake. At the visitor’s centre, you’ll also have the chance to learn more about the history, building and development of the canal.
Next there’s a guided nature trail to enjoy in the surrounding rainforest. Your guide will help you to scout for sloths, howler monkeys and exotic birdlife, as well as introducing you to the indigenous tropical plants and trees of the region.
From here, you will travel along the Amador Causeway, a road connecting three islands in the Pacific Ocean, with stunning views of both the canal and the Panama City skyline. Back in the capital, there’s a tour of the city’s Casco Viejo district, the old colonial quarter. Also known as Casco Antiguo, this UNESCO-listed historic neighbourhood features beautiful plazas, impressive churches, top museums, and some of Panama City’s best bars and restaurants.
The tour lasts a full day with transportation to and from city hotels. Also included is lunch, the services of an English-speaking guide and all entrance fees. Suitable for all those over 3 years, we would recommend wearing comfortable shoes, long trousers, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Do also pack a water bottle.
