Wat Rong Khun

Wat Rong Khun, or rather the White Temple as it is better known as amongst foreigners, is located between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai and is a rather spectacular temple, very different from the many others in the area.

Wat Rong Khun

Take time out of your trip through Thailand to come and marvel at this heavenly yet eccentric temple. Covered in mirrored tiles, from the outside, the White Temple sparkles and shines as if placed there by a god. Inside, be amazed by the modern references—superheroes, cartoons, and movie characters, to name a few. Each of the temple’s messages refers to the key philosophies of Buddhism.

This temple really is one of a kind; it was built in 1997 by national artist Chlermchai Kositpipat. Having seen over 5 million visitors since its construction, there is a reason for its popularity. The grounds are also beautifully maintained, so take some time to appreciate them in all their glory.
