The Liuwa Plain is a truly untouched wilderness area, located in the far reaches of western Zambia. To connoisseur safari-goers, it is one of Africa's ultimate safari destinations and previously the only access was on a set departure mobile safari. King Lewanika Lodge is an exciting new addition, opening up this wild and wonderful national park, offering a permanent and luxurious lodge from which to explore, designed by the same acclaimed architects who created sister camp Chinzombo.
Liuwa's wildlife includes large herds of blue wildebeest which migrate in from neighbouring Angola, lion, wild dog, hyena and a wide variety of antelope including red lechwe, oribi and roan. The park also boasts some superb birding opportunities, particularly in the rains when large flocks of migratory species arrive. The vast scale of the park, covering 3,660m² means you sometimes need to drive some distance to find the game, but the rewards are great, knowing you are one of a tiny handful of intrepid travellers to have witnessed a sighting.
The camp itself has six luxurious villas, one of which is a family villa. Set along the edge of the plains with beautiful trees, each villa is spacious and private. The design is modern and sleek, and the rooms are open fronted to make the most of the views. Each villa has a lounge area, open plan bathroom and outdoor shower, as well as a terrace with a canvas canopy providing shade. King Lewanika Lodge is a pioneering camp in so many ways, and offers a luxurious base for exploring this rewarding national park.
