Aspen boasts the closest commercial airfield to any other ski resort in the US, so to fly into Aspen itself is a pretty spectacular welcome. Not only that, it takes less than 15 minutes to reach the town center and most hotels, the easiest transfer to a ski resort you can have. Being 4 hours west of Denver, Aspen avoids the weekend crowds which so many resorts can be subject to.

Aspen is a historic mining town, dating back to the 19th century silver rush, the traditional grid system town retains that authentic charm along with a buzzing cultural scene, the town even hosts the first hotel to be located between Chicago and San Francisco that had running water and electricity, one of our favorites – Hotel Jerome. Now a magnet for the rich and famous it features some of the finest accommodation choices, from the famous snow front The Little Nell to the characterful Hotel Jerome. It is easy to explore the town on foot and as a year-round destination you do get a welcoming sense of community. As well as its western charm Aspen is a cosmopolitan cultural hub too, the town hosts the stunning Aspen Art Museum, Theater Aspen and an abundance of fine art galleries.

Much of the skiing in Aspen Snowmass occurs among the silver colored Aspen trees, from pretty tree lined groomers to off piste powder in the back bowls. The extensive ski resort is split across four different mountains, providing varied terrain for all ability skiers. While getting between the different hills requires a little effort, the efficient complimentary bus service makes it super easy. Our recommended rental shop has a free concierge service to deliver your skis to a different area each day, you simply let them know the afternoon prior once you have finished skiing.

The town is at the foot of Aspen Mountain (also known as AJAX) making this the most convenient mountain to the town. The most exhilarating and expert terrain can be found further west at Aspen Highlands, with vast open bowls. The next mountain along is Buttermilk, a perfect base for kids and beginners, and finally 9 miles west is Snowmass. Snowmass is furthest from Aspen and offers a purpose-built ski village with excellent Kids Treehouse center, as well as plenty of terrain, it’s a perfect match for families, beginners and intermediate skiers. Snowmass is often in immaculate condition and uncrowded, so a great location to consider basing yourself in.

To top off the fabulous skiing Aspen can offer much more, for those looking to experience alternative activities our favorite things to do include, an evening snowcat ride to a gourmet dinner in a mountain cabin, a guided snowshoe walk among the silvery Aspen trees and tubing down the carved runs at Elk Camp. From snowy experiences to galleries and buzzing apres-ski to fine dining, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Finally, it would be wrong to talk about Aspen without mentioning the sunshine, on average the resort enjoys 246 sunny days a year! With the snow and sunshine the climate of Aspen has created a skier’s paradise.

Guests can enjoy Aspen’s skiing area between December and April, book in the summer to benefit from the best early booking incentives.
