Start at the leading children’s healthcare organization in Siem Reap, the Angkor Hospital for Children, and take a look around their visitor center to learn more about the wonderful work that goes on at the facility. Then head to Apopo to learn how they train and deploy their furry hero rats, whose sense of smell is helping to rid Cambodia of landmines. With efforts from Apopo and other similar organizations, the number of casualties from landmines in Cambodia has been steadily decreasing. Finally, visit the new crafts center in Satcha that has been created to provide space for people to train local people in the production of local handicrafts. The center hosts stone and wood carvers, painters, lacquer artists, ceramists, silk and cotton weavers, water hyacinth and rattan weavers, leather engravers, seamstresses, and jewelry makers, all of whom learn to hone their technical skills. They are also taught business and marketing skills, as well as some foreign languages. The center was specially designed using sustainable bamboo. A dinner can be arranged prior to your return to the hotel, depending on your preference.
