For those visiting the wonderfully preserved 16th century narrow lanes and merchant houses of Takayama, Iori Kawanaka provides guests with the opportunity to experience life as a local. This wonderfully restored warehouse is a home away from home just outside the town in the peaceful setting of Hida Furukawa. The helpful concierge service welcomes guests and can advise on all the local attractions, to help you make the most of your time in the region.
This 80-year-old traditional warehouse backs onto the carp-filled Setogawa River and has been renovated to create a stylish, modern, and airy base. Retaining the building’s traditional heritage and charm, the work of local artisans including a traditional plasterer, furniture maker and gardener, make a stay here a truly memorable experience.
The house sleeps between 2-6 people over two floors. The ground floor includes a lounge and dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and separate WC, with access to the Japanese-styled garden with an outdoor bathtub. The two bedrooms are on the upper floor. Each includes three single futon beds. There is air conditioning, Wi-Fi, TV, refrigerator, and hairdryer provided.
Breakfast is included and is delivered daily by the chef, who can prepare different types of food to suit your tastes, including vegetarian and vegan options. There are plenty of local options for dining or dinner can be delivered by arrangement. There is even the option to enjoy private in-house dining with a Michelin-trained chef.
Iori Kawanaka is one of two townhouses in Hira Furukawa we offer, along with sister property, Iori Ichinomachi.
