Mara Expedition (formerly Mara Toto) sits in the heart of the 70,000 acre Mara North Conservancy, magnificent predator country and within striking distance of one of the finest wildlife sightings on earth, the river crossings of the great wildebeest and zebra migration.
Derek and Beverly Joubert, alongside the Mara Plains managers, Lorna and Richard, spent endless days driving through the area in search of the perfect site for their new camp. At the end of a long day of driving they stopped on the river bank for a sundowner and realized they had, by chance, stumbled upon the perfect spot.
The whole concept for Mara Expedition was focused on a blend of comfort, adventure and intimacy that would make this small camp stand out amongst the other options of the greater Maasai Mara area. Mara Expeditions is designed for those who seek the levels of service and attention to detail of a Great Plains camp, but are prepared to forgo some of the fancier amenities. However, guests will still be pampered with fine dining, beautifully appointed tents and warm hospitality.
On the wildlife front, you wont need to venture far from camp to be in with a chance of experiencing some extraordinary game sightings, the migration passes through camp every year and the riverine forest in which the camp is set is prime leopard territory.
