  • Perched along the banks of the mysterious upper Nile, watch the world go by from the superb deck as hippos honk on the breeze.

  • Even the little ones can enjoy the wild, with cottages catered for families and even a kiddies pool, families will have a vacation that will last a lifetime.

  •  Catch sight of shadowy shapes as they move between the trees of the Budongo Forest Reserve, where chimpanzees are a truly memorable sight to behold.

  • Venture out onto the river and seek adventure. Feel the spray of the Murchison Falls as you approach from the water or seek the elusive Shoebill in the mysterious wetlands.

The family-run Murchison River Lodge is a remote lodge, located on the southern banks of the River Nile in Murchison Falls National Park. Instantly welcoming, and providing a comfortable mid-range option for families and couples, the lodge has been thoughtfully designed to provide a relaxing base for exploring this fascinating part of Uganda. The accommodation consists of four spacious thatched cottages, attractively furnished with a double bed upstairs on a mezzanine floor and two single beds and an en-suite bathroom downstairs. Wide verandahs overlook the bush and have a sofa and hammock allowing you to sit back, lie back and enjoy the view, especially the birdlife. The cottages are perfect for families and come equipped with solar lights, bed linen, towels, mosquito nets, but do note that there is no air-conditioning. There are also some thatched safari tents set in the bush towards the River Nile. These furnished tents have an outside area with safari chairs and table. In the evenings the pathways are lit with lanterns and security staff will be happy to guide you from the restaurant to your accommodation.

The main lodge area comprises a bar and restaurant and sits on a raised bank providing unrivaled panoramic views of the River Nile and Murchison Falls National Park. From this wonderful vantage point you can often see elephant, hippo and bushbuck. A swimming pool has been set among trees with splendid Nile views, and has a terrace where you can relax on sun-loungers. The Lion’s Den Craft Shop sells intriguing story-piece crafted goods such as men on bicycles, beaded lizards and gourd animal stands.

Activities are numerous: the birding here is superb, and there are game drives in the national park, guided walking safaris that allow you to get up close and personal with rhinos in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, and chimp treks in Kaniyo Pabidi Forest Reserve. You can also take a boat trip to the foot of the Murchison Falls, enjoy a spot of fishing, or go on a guided community walk to learn about the local villagers’ way of life.
