Set along the glorious banks of the Luangwa River, backing onto a beautiful lagoon, amid lofty Lala palm trees and lush vegetation, Kulandila Camp boasts an authentic safari vibe. Meaning to ‘receive’ or ‘welcome,’ Kulandila and its sister property, Sungani Lodge are the brainchild of the Davy family. Passionate about conservation and sustainability, these remote camps were designed and built using a local team and materials, as part of the family’s mission to protect the African wilderness, people, and wildlife.
The camp comprises four elevated tents, linked by meandering pathways to the communal areas, which include a swimming pool, viewing deck overlooking the river and the open-sided main tent. Here guests can enjoy al-fresco style dining, a cozy bar and comfortable colonial inspired lounge with leather chairs and comfortable sofas.
The traditional style tents feature an attractive daybed, plush beds with white linens, textured cushions, oiled teak furniture, overhead fan, mosquito nets, indoor bathroom with rainfall shower, outdoor slipper bath, private veranda, and modern amenities, while still upholding a true safari experience. Each tent includes single beds which can be configured to create a King or Twin Room. There is also a complimentary laundry service.
Menus are created from the sister camp Sungani’s kitchen and the cuisine is simple, using locally sourced produce where possible. Guests have access to a tea and coffee bar and a bar serving fine wines, beer, cocktails, and spirits is open from mid-morning onwards.
Alongside relaxing on the deck and watching life on the river, guests can enjoy walking safaris led by experienced and knowledgeable guides, game drives in custom built vehicles with modified suspension, comfortable individual seating, foot and camera rests and river safaris. Sister property, Sungani Lodge has several photographic hides which guests can use to capture images of the wildlife that visit the lagoon.
