This modern Japanese-style hot springs or onsen ryokan, offers both private and public onsen baths, exceptional service, traditional Japanese cuisine, a welcoming atmosphere and English-speaking staff. Located in Hida Takayama Onsen, the hotel’s main feature is the hot spring baths. Guests can choose from a room with a private outdoor onsen or bathe in the onsite public baths for Japan-style relaxation. There is a shuttle bus from Takayama Station to Hidatei Hanaougi or Hida Furukawa Station is a 20-minute drive away.

Hidatei Hanaougi has 48 guest rooms, with some featuring Western-style beds and others traditional futons. There is also the choice to have a private outdoor onsen to enjoy. Amenities include air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, en-suite bathroom with bathtub and shower, flat-screen TV, safe and fridge. The food is a highlight of the hotel serving classic Japanese food involving many courses in a traditional setting, where guests are encouraged to wear the robes which are provided. The Takayama Ramen Bar also serves noodle dishes to enjoy with a drink and there is a coffee lounge.

The site is located on natural hot springs and for those wishing to use the public onsen the staff are happy to explain the etiquette. These are single sex and offer both indoor and outdoor hot springs bathing. The onsite spa also offers relaxing massage and aromatherapy. For those wishing to experience a more traditional Japanese-style ryokan including superb food and hot spring bathing, Hidatei Hanagougi delivers on all accounts.

Location

Takayama, Japan

Hidatei Hanougi is located in Takayama, close to Okura Falls in the Gifu prefacture. It is situated close to Hida Kokubun Temple and a 10-minute drive from Hidatakayama Museum.

Fly into Tokyo Haneda Airport. From there take the Shinkasen bullet train to Takayama. The ryokan is a 10-minute drive from the station.
