  • Expect a tasteful contemporary design in natural local materials such as sal and bamboo, which blend into the habitat

  • Floating private verandas with panoramic views across the Banjaar River

Banjaar Tola located close to Kahna National Park has its own unique identity and is a great destination for wildlife enthusiasts who want to feel close to nature. With only the green ribbon of the Banjaar River separating it from the lush jungles of Kanha, from the moment you arrive at Banjaar Tola you are enveloped in a genuine jungle atmosphere.

With just 18 lightweight tented suites spread over two camps, each tent has been designed in a contemporary style. Expect pressed bamboo wall panels, gorgeous bamboo floors, and locally crafted furniture hewn from local timber. The textiles used throughout have been thoughtfully designed, with rich block-printed Madhya Pradesh cottons and silks. The huge glass doors, which open up onto your veranda, beckon the Indian sky into your suite; creating an atmosphere that is light and ethereal.

The two intimate camps of just nine tents each sit lightly on the earth, specially constructed for low impact on this sensitive riverine environment. One of the largest and most scenic wildlife sanctuaries in India, Kanha National Park is an ideal habitat for both tigers and their prey species. The lush sal and bamboo forests, grassy meadows and ravines of Kanha shelter a significant population of rare species such as tiger, leopard, sloth bear, barasingha and wild dog.

Kanha is particularly well known for its endangered swamp deer, or hardwater barasingha, which populate the large open tracks of grass amidst the forests of teak and bamboo. Brought back from the brink of extinction, these handsome animals are a remarkable conservation success story for Kanha.

Top tip:

Ask your naturalist to take you up to the plateau - there are occasional sloth bear sightings there and it is also possible that you may also see the rare four-horned deer.
