Flame of the Forest

Flame of the Forest is an intimate and boutique safari lodge of only four exclusive cottages nestled in a 10-acre campus in Kanha National Park - one of India’s original tiger reserves, and a premium location for viewing a whole array of Indian wildlife.

Kanha National Park, Central India, India
  • Flame of the Forest is an intimate lodge with just four luxury cottages

  • Authentically constructed, built and designed in the local gober (mud/water/cow dung mix)

  • Peaceful setting on the banks of Banjaar River, so a perfect hideaway for nature enthusiasts

  • Enjoy yoga and Ayurvedic treatments after a morning game drive

Flame of the Forest sits closest to the Kisli Gate of Kahna National Park– the main entrance to the park. This lodge was set up by husband and wife team Karan and Isabelle who shared a dream to live in nature responsibly; to learn from the indigenous people of the area and to conserve the natural environment.

The four luxurious cottages and the central dining area which form the property, are built in a local traditional style using mud and thatch. These are connected by a network of pathways and bridges which overlook the Banjaar River giving nature lovers the opportunity to watch water birds, monkeys and deer who are drawn there to drink.

Whilst many guests come to Kanha National Park simply for the wildlife experience, the property has purposely been kept small and intimate to offer guests personalised flexibility. Whilst it is Karan’s aim to tailor his wildlife experiences to the guest, the lodge also understands that not everyone wants to focus relentlessly on wildlife so guests are able to learn Yoga with Isabelle (a qualified teacher), receive cookery lessons from the chef, or simply kick back and relax on the deck of the cottages and experience the wilderness in peace.

The central concept behind the lodge is to be environmentally and socially aware with an understanding that sustainable conservation is not possible without the local community. For this reason all the lodge team are from the local community and the lodge is actively involved in education within the local school. This association means the lodge is able to give guests an unique insight into the lives of the tribal people that inhabit the small villages nearby and an all-round exceptional experience in the wilderness of the national park.
