The Family Bungalow is perfect for younger families with connecting separate rooms, both equipped with ensuite bathrooms.
First established in 1962, the Tanjung Sari initially started as a four-bungalow extension to the family home of Wija Wawo-Runtu to house visiting family and friends. Since then, it has flourished and now comprises 29 traditional-style bungalows, all tastefully-decorated in traditional Balinese style with a lovely selection of crafts and antiques. The location, at Sanur beach on Bali’s southeast coast, means it is only a short stroll to a range of bars, shops and restaurants. It is a 10-minute drive from the capital city, Denspasar and around 25-minutes from the international airport, Ngurah Rai.
The bungalows, shaded by the trees, are dotted throughout the attractive tropical garden and have been built in traditional style with thatch-roofs, private gardens and lounging pavilions, but with all the comforts of modern living including polished wood interiors, spacious beds, modern bathrooms and air-conditioning.
There is a bar and open-air restaurant located around the pool and beach area, serving authentic local and international dishes. At dusk, lanterns are lit creating a romantic fairy-tale atmosphere. There is a friendly beachside area that flows around the 15-metre salt water infinity pool and swimming towels are provided. Here you will find the Bale Beton, an open-air lounge where local children practise Balinese dance on Friday and Sunday afternoons. Guests may also want to hang out in the library, a lovely lounge area with a good selection of books and board games, or there’s the option to work up a sweat in the gym. The beach here is lovely and unlike some parts of the coastline, great for swimming making Tanjung Sari is a wonderful spot for a relaxed family holiday, or for couples looking for a beachside location.
When to visit
If you are there on the weekend over the summer months, make sure you visit the street food market on the beach to try some local specialities.
