Amantaka offers a deft fusion of refined luxury and old world charm. It's arguably the most spoiling and indulgent property in the country, with perfect private pool suites, shuttered windows, fine dining cuisine and the most wonderful glassy pool.
Amantaka artfully combines modern touches with fantastic colonial, old-world charm in a welcoming and luxurious boutique property
Amantaka offers 24 suites ranging in size from 70 to 120 square metres each
Amantaka sits in the heart of Luang Prabang, a town declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995
Amantaka derives its name from the word aman, the Sanskrit word for ‘peace’, and from Tipitaka, meaning ‘the teaching of the Buddha’ in Theravada scholastic literature
Located close to the mighty Mount Phousi, this beautiful property rests on a peninsula framed by the mighty Mekong and Khan Rivers. Amantaka is surrounded by lush green countryside, spectacular waterfalls, ancient caves and is within walking distance of picturesque temples, villages and night markets of Luang Prabang. Amantaka is the most exclusive address in Luang Prabang and the Aman ethos offers a very luxurious yet understated welcoming experience for guests staying here.
The suites at Amantaka are entered through pretty louvered doors from the courtyard and are spacious both inside and out with shady gardens home to loungers placed under the mango trees. All suites are elegantly furnished, have lofty high ceilings and most have the added luxury of their own private pools.
Meals influenced by both the Lao and French schools of cuisine are served in the dining room, terrace or in the comfort of your own suite. For that memorable occasion you can opt for private dinner in a location of your choosing in the hotel's lush gardens.
Add to the overall feeling of serenity with a soothing treatment at Amantaka's Aman Spa - massages, facials, scrubs and wraps incorporate the best of Southeast Asian technique with Aman Spa's own range of organic products.
Luang Prabang has so much, culturally, to offer, that it is a well deserved treat to return to such luxury after a day's exploration.
When to visit
The morning market trip and cooking class is amazing, I learnt how to make the most delicious chicken laap (a traditional Lao dish of shredded chicken with herbs).

Amantaka is located on Kingkitsarath Road in central Luang Prabang, in what was the hospital during French colonial times. The temple district and night market are just a short walk away.
