Kotohira Kadan

Kotohira Kadan is a ryokan with an elegant and traditional style in Kotohira. The hotel makes use of natural wood and stone throughout, drawing on historical influences to create a unique and special place, full of local character. Set amidst stunning gardens, the ryokan has inspired Japanese authors such as Ogai Mori, Hakushu Kitahara and Akiko Yosano. Ogai Mori was an influential Japanese writer, most famous for his novel The Wild Geese, and stayed at one of the Japanese houses at Kotohira Kadan.

Accommodation blends traditional and contemporary styles to create tasteful and restful rooms. Guests can choose between Japanese style rooms with tatami mats and futon beds, or western style beds. Some rooms have open-air baths. Upgrade to a Japanese house and you will be treated to a four-poster bed, an elegant and spacious seating area, and an outdoor hot spring bath.
