Setouchi Aonagi sits high above the deep blue waters of the Seto Inland Sea with glorious views over the surrounding natural beauty and is located 30km north of Matsuyama on Shikoku Island. Formerly an art gallery, this architecturally significant hotel, built by world-renowned Tadao Ando, has been beautifully renovated to showcase its crisp, clean lines and minimalist aesthetic.
In honor of its heritage, captivating modern art works are on display throughout the hotel and together with a tasteful neutral color scheme and beautifully designed wooden furnishings, the hotel has the feel of a stylish and intimate retreat. Each of the seven generously sized suites boasts wonderful views and balconies.
Hot Spring Suites include semi-outdoor Japanese bathtubs, open-plan bed and living room, bathroom, and separate WC, and can accommodate up to two adults and two children under 12 years. Garden Suites sleep up to three adults, overlook the garden and have a separate bedroom and living room, while the 4-Bed Suite sleeps up to five adults in two separate bedrooms each with their own bathroom and a large, shared living room.
The most prestigious suite is the Aonagi Suite, on two floors and offering some of the finest panoramic views in Japan from the spectacular floor-to-ceiling windows. The first floor is home to a large living area, terrace, bathroom, and separate WC, while the second floor is home to the bedroom, Jacuzzi, and separate WC. The suite sleeps up to four adults.
The Japanese restaurant serves kaiseki dinners beautifully crafted from locally sourced produce and seafood, with a farm-to-table philosophy. Leisure wise, the outdoor infinity pool connects to the hotel’s Art Lounge and there is an indoor pool with Jacuzzi and sauna that can be booked to enjoy for private use. The onsite spa, All That Spa, offers customized treatments using products filled with Setouchi’s natural wonders, including yuzu, tangerine and pomelo.
